Can you keep a secret?

Hey, pssst. Can you keep a secret? I’ll tell you, but only if you promise to never despair of Allah’s mercy ever again. 🤫 What did you say? Are you afraid? Oh, you’re not afraid. So what is it then? You don’t think you can make such a big promise? Well, I can assure you, there’s no need to worry. I think this is a promise you will never, ever regret making.

Okay so here it is… the big secret:

{توبة – Tawbah – Repentance}

That’s half of the secret. Hmm… you don’t seem very surprised. Wait, where are you going? I haven’t finished yet! Keep reading and it will all make sense. The second half of the secret is:

{I seek forgiveness from Allah – Astaghfirullah – أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰه}

I guess you were expecting something a little more… secret. 🤔

Hear me out.

Not many people know why this secret is so special. You see, this is what happens when people commit sins upon sins upon mountains of sins: they lose hope in Allah. They think that they will never be forgiven. And something that breaks my heart is that so many of my brothers and sisters begin to believe that they are destined to Hell because they keep falling into sin. It’s sad because when they adopt this ‘I’m going to hell anyway’ mentality, they risk wandering far away from Allah.

It can be difficult to turn back to Allah after being away from Him for so long. Some of us may feel too ashamed to show our face to Him. Or perhaps you’re afraid that He won’t forgive you because your sins are so many. Let me ask you something. If you don’t turn back to Him, where will you go? If you don’t seek His forgiveness, who will forgive your sins? You can’t hide from Allah! If we truly knew Our Creator, we would not want to hide from Him. In fact, if we really knew Allah, He would be the first One we’d want to run to whenever we slip up.

Maybe we need a little reminder of who Allah is:

♥️Ar-Raheem- The Most Merciful.

♥️Al-Ghafoor- the Most Forgiving.

Allah says in the Quran:

Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” {Surah Az-Zumar Verse 53}

Have you forgotten that Allah can forgive all sins, as long as you worship Him alone? There is no one more able to forgive your sins than Him.

No praying to saints, no blood sacrifice and no confession to a human. None of that is necessary to cleanse your heart. All you need is to turn back to Allah. Ask forgiveness from Him. Have hope in Him.

When Allah says about Himself that He forgives all sins, who are we to question Him?

However, there is one condition we must fulfil if we truly desire to be forgiven. Are you ready to know what it is?

Sincere repentance.

Sincere repentance means you deeply regret and feel guilty for doing the sin. It means that you ask Allah to forgive you. And most importantly, in your heart, you make a firm intention to not repeat your mistake again.

Some of us may fall back into the sin we repented for. When that happens, we need to remember the secret to having our sins erased: repentance to Allah and seeking His forgiveness. Allah will not turn you away if you go back to Him whilst you hope for His mercy and forgiveness.

Remember, you never know when your life will end. You could leave this world with a heart that is rusted with sins or a heart that is polished with forgiveness from Allah. Which one will you choose?

May Allah forgive all our sins and may He help us to turn back to Him with sincere hearts. Ameen.♥️
